Kinetic Games announced the release of Phasmophobia’s latest update which includes customizable characters. While most fans were happy to hear about this, they were met with some disappointment. Along with the update came some bugs & issues that a lot of Phasmophobia fans are not quite happy with. Let’s get into it.
Not only did players receive character customization, which included apparel, accessories, and a preset character model variety, players also received in-game animations for their character. An example would be if you select a certain item to use, you can actually watch your hand/arm move and turn on/off the item you’re holding. Another big change was the flashlight, it now sits in your left hand while your right hand holds a piece of equipment, however it still counts as a 3rd item for what you can carry. Speaking of that, the lighter no longer counts as a secret 4th item (you could carry 3 pieces of equipment plus a lighter as a 4th piece, but the lighter was the only thing this was possible with, this is no longer the case it seems), which some players are not happy with. Another issue among the reviews is how clunky the new player models look, especially when holding items in your hand. Personally, as a player myself, I have noticed this too. Not only that, holding certain items, such as the video camera, seem to cover more of the screen as well, meaning you’d have to watch through the camera screen just to see what is going on around you, or drop the camera itself.
Another issue players are reporting is constant online disconnecting issues. Players have been reporting that while in the middle of an investigation with other players, they would be randomly disconnected and the investigation would be over. This seems to be a constant issue across the whole game since the update.
Another thing that was noticed is lack of items for customization. While Kinetic did confirm a Twitch Drop for the update (which was a High Priestess T-Shirt), others have noticed there isn’t a lot to select from. If you have prestiged several times already, you will have new T-Shirts unlocked for every prestige level you have unlocked.
Now let’s talk a couple positives. One big change that I find really neat is the Watch on your left wrist. You can see this watch during your investigation. On the watch, you’ll see a colored ring around the outer screen, that is your Sanity Meter. You can actually check your sanity without having to go back to the truck! Another on-screen feature on the watch is a microphone icon. If you use push-to-talk in game, when you hit your hotkey the mic on the watch will light up, showing your mic is active. Pretty cool, right? Another cool thing, the watch does NOT count as a piece of electronic equipment, so the ghosts can’t use it during a hunt to find you. Kinda fair, since you can’t remove the watch.
What else has changed? How about that creepy death room. Remember when the ghost would kill you and you would be sent into this room, kinda looks like you’re underground, and there’s a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling, and the ghost is in a corner, and eventually that bulb breaks? Well, that room is now gone from existence. Instead, if you are killed, you will immediately be transitioned into the Dead state.
Oh yeah, another issue was if a player dies, they can’t access the Journal to select the ghost type. Kinetic has already addressed this issue and is set to be fixed, among other issues, in a patch due soon.
